Standers are a great way to help your developmentally disabled child's rehabilitation and provides an alternative for positioning and pressure relief for those who use wheelchairs. The benefits of using Standers include:

There are several types of Standers: Supine, Prone and Vertical Standers, all by Wenzelite, who specializes in pediatric rehabilitation. Supine Standers are best for weight bearing and for children who are lacking head control. They provide support on the posterior surface of the user and incremental weight bearing as tolerated. The Prone Standers are best for children with better head control and for strengthening extensors. They are also used as a functional position for play and upper extremity use. Vertical Standers are static and support the child in an up-right position. They're considered best for maintaining bone density, assisting with bladder and bowel function and in introducing full weight bearing.

Standers also allow children with lower extremities or Neurological disabilities to move around and interact with others safely and securely. This ability will help with the child's rehabilitation and improve their self-esteem and social skills.

The Marvel Vertical Stander offers vertical alignment and upright support at four points; the foot, knee, pelvic and trunk level. Features include: Foot restraint and heel cups - lateral and front to back adjustments provide feet and ankle alignment. Knee blocks - lateral and height adjustments and two positions of depth maintain hip-knee-foot alignment and assist in abduction.
